An area for the current members - anything we feel of specific interest to you. For example, recent news, such as grading results, will be posted here, along with a calendar of events, etc.

Hwarang Club Gradings

Gradings are held once a term, usually on the last weekend before we break for the holiday. Members should attend at least 25 training sessions per term to be eligible to grade (there is little point turning up one week before - you are only cheating yourself). We don't take a register, but we are aware of the people who are and aren't training regularly.

Cost is usually a nominal fee, I think it's about 7 quid most times. If you successfully pass your grading, you will be awarded with an official ETU (European Tae Kwo Do Union) certificate, which we will present at a training session after the grading.

After each grading we have a night out on The Toon (a large one). This always involves the grading meal, where the club pays for all wine (and lots of it!), and we announce results. The meal is always a superb event, and really brings everyone together to celebrate the hard work put in by all grading candidates.

Competitions

We always enter the Student Nationals every year. These are usually held towards the end of March, so we have plenty of time to get fit after the Christmas excess..!! Other than that we sometimes enter others, although we have been a bit slow with this over the last few years - it is hard to fit in enough time to train for competition and gradings in a 10 week term. We might have to organise additional sparring training sessions in the future if people want this.

It's not all sparring! There are always competitions for Forms, and usually a Power test where you get to break some boards.
